Hands-on ScienceDirect Training Conducted for B.E. Mechanical and Electrical Students

  The Learning and Information Resource Centre (LIRC), SFIT, organized a Hands-on Training Programme on Elsevier ScienceDirect for 98 B.E. Mechanical and Electrical Engineering students . The training was delivered by Mr. Girish Kulkarni, Associate Director – Sales, GIST , who demonstrated practical techniques for searching and accessing high-quality scientific literature. Students received hands-on experience in: Advanced database searching Research paper retrieval Search alerts Literature review strategies Identifying relevant journals Maximizing the use of ScienceDirect for project research The interactive session enabled students to gain practical exposure to one of the most widely used engineering research databases, preparing them for academic research and lifelong learning. The Learning and Information Resource Centre (LIRC), St. Francis Institute of Technology, successfully conducted an orientation programme on Elsevier ScienceDirect for students from multiple engineering departments under the able guidance of Ms. Preethi Colaco, Asst. Prof. Department of Basic Science and Humanities. A total of 184 students participated: Mechanical Engineering – 73 Electrical Engineering – 25 ECS – 36 ExTC – 50 The session introduced students to: Accessing international engineering journals Effective literature searching Advanced filtering techniques Downloading scholarly articles Supporting field projects and academic assignments The programme aimed to build strong research foundations and promote the effective use of digital library resources across engineering disciplines.
