Scopus Indexation Update: Analysis of 14 Newly Discontinued & Re-evaluated Journals

In its ongoing effort to maintain indexing quality and curb unethical or predatory publishing practices, Scopus continuously monitors and re-evaluates journals indexed in its database.

Below is a detailed breakdown of the 14 journal titles that have recently experienced indexation updates (either complete Discontinuation or Journal Change Policy) based on the latest Scopus title updates.

What Does This Mean for Authors and Researchers?
1. Difference Between "Discontinuation" and "Journal Change Policy"

Discontinuation: The journal has been officially removed from Scopus indexing (typically flagged via automated radar tools, publication volume anomalies, or peer review quality concerns). Articles published after the listed cutoff issue will not be indexed in Scopus.

Journal Change Policy: Indicates administrative, structural, or publishing model changes (e.g., changes in publisher, publication frequency, Open Access conversion, or ongoing re-evaluation). While not immediately removed, coverage status may fluctuate.

2. Practical Steps Before Submitting Your Manuscript

  • Always verify active status: Check the latest Scopus Source List directly on the official Elsevier website prior to submission.
  • Protect your research: If you have submitted a paper to any of the discontinued titles but it has not been published yet, consider withdrawing your submission to preserve your eligibility for indexing in an active Scopus-indexed journal.
  • Institutional Requirements: Most universities and funding bodies strictly require active indexing at the time of publication for tenure, promotions, and PhD defense prerequisites.
