Empowering Future Educators: Library Orientation & AI Tools Session at St. Teresa's Institute of Education

The role of a teacher is constantly evolving. Beyond mastering subject matter, today’s educators must be adept at navigating vast information networks and leveraging modern technology to build engaging, future-ready learning environments.

As part of the collaborative Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between St. Francis Institute of Technology (SFIT) and St. Teresa’s Institute of Education (STIE), we had the privilege of organizing an impactful dual session designed to equip future teachers with both traditional information literacy and cutting-edge digital tools.

Navigating the Gateway to Knowledge: Library Orientation Session

It was an absolute pleasure to conduct the Library Orientation Session for the enthusiastic B.Ed. students of St. Teresa’s Institute of Education, located at St. Teresa’s Convent, S.V. Road, Santacruz (W), Mumbai.

The primary aim of this orientation was to introduce the students to the rich physical and digital ecosystem of the library. During the session, students explored:

  • Rich Learning Resources: From foundational educational literature to research journals and reference collections.

  • Digital Services & Information Tools: Leveraging search databases, e-catalogs, and open-access tools for effective academic research.

  • Academic Support: Understanding the library as a dynamic workspace and a strategic partner throughout their teacher-training journey.

The curiosity and eagerness demonstrated by these future educators to look beyond textbooks was truly inspiring.

Transforming the Classroom: "AI Tools for Education" by Dr. Vaishali Jadhav

Following the library orientation, Dr. Vaishali Jadhav delivered an enlightening presentation on "AI Tools for Education."

Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping the educational landscape. Dr. Jadhav demonstrated how AI can serve as a powerful assistant to teachers by streamlining everyday pedagogical tasks, including:

  • Smart Lesson Planning: Designing interactive, structured curricula in a fraction of the time.

  • Creative Content Generation: Developing diverse visual and text-based resources tailored to varied learning styles.

  • Personalized Learning: Adapting instruction to better support individual student needs.

The session emphasized the importance of adopting technology responsibly, ethically, and creatively, ensuring that AI acts as an enhancer—not a substitute—for human connection in teaching.

Bridging Information and Innovation

As the educators of tomorrow prepare to step into classrooms and shape young minds, having both strong information literacy (knowing how to locate and evaluate knowledge) and digital competency (knowing how to apply technological tools) is essential. Together, libraries and artificial intelligence build a bridge between traditional scholarship and modern innovation, opening new pathways for teaching and lifelong learning.

Acknowledgments

A heartfelt thank you to:

  • Dr. Tanuja Waghmare, Principal, STIE, for her warm support and leadership.

  • Dr. Shakuntala Nighot, Librarian, STIE, for coordinating this valuable platform.

  • The entire B.Ed. batch of STIE for their vibrant participation, insightful questions, and energy.

We look forward to many more collaborative ventures under the SFIT-STIE MOU to support the professional growth of our educational community!

🌟 "The library opens the door to knowledge, and technology empowers us to use that knowledge to transform the world."
