The Learning and Information Resource Centre (LIRC), SFIT NDLI Club, successfully conducted an Open Book Test on VLSI Design for 59 Third-Year ECS students on 4 August 2026 . The activity encouraged students to move beyond memorization by applying concepts, analyzing information, and utilizing library resources effectively. Through this initiative, students: Strengthened conceptual understanding Improved information retrieval skills Developed analytical thinking Utilized scholarly learning resources during assessment Experienced outcome-based learning practices Open Book Tests continue to promote critical thinking and independent learning, reinforcing the role of the library as an active partner in engineering education.

The Institution Innovation Council (IIC) in collaboration with the Learning and Information Resource Centre (LIRC) , St. Francis Institute of Technology (Engineering College) , successfully organized the First Inter-Collegiate Book Review Competition on 21 January 2026 at the SFIT LIRC (2nd Floor, B Wing). The competition was conducted from 10.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. with the objective of promoting a reading culture , enhancing writing and critical thinking skills , and providing students with a platform to express their literary insights creatively. The programme was graced by the presence of the Chief Guest, Mr. Albert W. D’Souza , Chairman, St. John College of Engineering and Management . Mumbai: The new year will open with a symphony of words for students in Maharashtra. A govt resolution (GR) decrees that 45 lakh students, spread across 6,000 colleges and 83 universities in the state, embark on a shared literary journey: to read one book, cover to cover, and craft a thoughtful review. The book reading and review initiative will be held from Jan 1-15. The state's director of higher education, Shailendra Deolankar, said he was inspired to launch this "bold experiment in collective reflection, uniting campuses under a single narrative" after attending the Pune reading festival. Students can pick any book except a textbook related to the curriculum. "The idea is to increase student engagement and to promote the habit of reading that is lost on the current generation. Commemorating National Reading Day: A Report on Library Celebrations In the vibrant landscape of India, National Reading Day stands as a beacon of literary enthusiasm, celebrated annually on June 19th to honour the legacy of P.N. Panicker, the visionary pioneer of the library movement in Kerala. Libraries across the nation embrace this occasion with a fervour of activities, transforming their spaces into hubs of literary engagement and celebration. SFIT LIRC celebrated the National Reading Day 2022 with a very novel - "Spin a Wheel" activity. We received a huge response from all the students and staff members.
