Discover @ SFIT LIRC – July 2026

The Learning and Information Resource Centre (LIRC) at St. Francis Institute of Technology welcomes everyone to another exciting month filled with valuable resources, research support, and engaging activities.

This month's Book of the Month, Atomic Habits by James Clear, offers practical strategies for building positive habits and achieving long-term success through small, consistent improvements.

Our Database of the Month is Elsevier ScienceDirect, one of the world's leading collections of peer-reviewed journals, books, and conference proceedings. Students and faculty are encouraged to explore high-quality engineering and technology literature using effective search techniques.

Research Tip

Make your searches smarter by using:

  • Exact phrase searching (" ")
  • Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT)
  • Filters such as publication year, subject area, and document type

Example:
"finite element method" AND "composite materials" NOT biomedical

We congratulate our Highest Library Footfalls for the Academic Year 2025–2026:

  • Rhea Misquitta
  • Racheal Munis
  • Ashita Salwan
  • Owais Shaikh
  • Sumit Prajapati

This month's Faculty Publication Spotlight features:

Neural Networks based Detection and Segmentation of Diabetic Retinopathy

Authors: James M., Chaudhari R., Jayaswal D.

Published in the IEEE International Conference on Image Information Processing (ICIIP 2025).

Our Library's Pick is The Magic of Thinking Big, an inspiring classic that encourages readers to develop confidence, think positively, and achieve greater success.

Events at SFIT LIRC

Library Orientation and Information Literacy Sessions for First-Year Engineering Students

Introduction

To support the academic journey of our first-year engineering students, the Library Orientation and Information Literacy Sessions were conducted to familiarize them with library resources, research methodologies, and essential information skills needed for their coursework and projects.

Number of Participants

The sessions were attended by more than 300 first-year engineering students, who actively engaged in learning about the various resources and services offered by the library.

Key Areas Covered

The orientation focused on the following critical areas:

Participant Feedback

Students expressed appreciation for the session’s practical approach and hands-on demonstrations, noting increased confidence in navigating both physical and digital resources. Many found the AICTE E KUMBH and Knimbus M Library portal to be very helpful for their academics.

In Conclusion...

The Library Orientation and Information Literacy Sessions successfully introduced first-year engineering students to essential academic resources and research practices. These sessions are a vital step toward fostering independent learning and research excellence within the engineering faculty.
