The Government of India is stepping up efforts to build a robust, self-reliant semiconductor ecosystem through India Semiconductor Mission 2.0 (ISM 2.0) , announced in the Union Budget 2026–27. The initiative aims to strengthen domestic capabilities in semiconductor equipment, materials, chip design and manufacturing while reducing dependence on external supply chains. The expansion of India's semiconductor ecosystem creates promising avenues for students, faculty and researchers in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and related disciplines. India is strengthening its position in the global semiconductor industry with the opening of two dedicated semiconductor engineering development centres by Rapidus Corporation of Japan and HCLTech in Bengaluru and Hubli, Karnataka. The centres were inaugurated on 26 October 2026 and will support Rapidus in developing next-generation advanced logic semiconductor technologies. The growing number of retracted research papers in India has raised concerns about research quality and academic integrity. According to a report published by The Print on 6 October 2026, numerous retracted papers have been flagged during the ongoing National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) assessment, prompting closer scrutiny of higher education institutions. India recorded 887 research paper retractions in 2025 , ranking second globally after China, according to Retraction Watch. The NIRF framework introduced negative marking for retracted publications in its 2025 assessment, affecting institutions’ publication and citation scores. Authorities are also reportedly considering excluding repeat offenders from future rankings. Research papers may be retracted due to plagiarism, fabricated or manipulated data, duplicate publication, ethical violations, or compromised peer review. Google Research has introduced Deep Review , an AI-powered system designed to analyse technical documents, identify logical gaps, verify mathematical statements, and provide detailed feedback to improve document quality. Initially developed to support academic research paper reviews, Deep Review has expanded to cover documents such as technical proposals, presentations, and legal and financial materials.
