New Delhi: The All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is
revamping the curriculum of the BBA, BCA, and BBM courses in the
country. “The new syllabus and textbooks will be implemented in the coming academic year. The structure of the exams will also be changed,”
said AICTE chairman Prof T G Sitharam.
Under the new arrangement, the AICTE will oversee the conduct of these
courses, even though they will continue to be under the University
Grants Commission (UGC). In fact, the institutions conducting these
courses would also have to gain the approval of AICTE. “The curriculum
will be revised after consultations with experts in the technical
education and management sectors,” said the chairman.
BBA and BCA courses are offered by several institutions in Kerala,
including arts and science colleges. Authorities said that AICTE approval
could be obtained by uploading the documents mentioned in the AISHE
(All-India Survey of Higher Education) portal. The institutions need not
have to change the admission procedures, affiliation, or number of seats,
they added. However, AICTE guidelines on the strength and
qualifications of faculty and the number of classrooms would have to be
followed.
The main advantage for BBA, BCA, and BBM when the new system is
implemented would be the availability of all facilities provided to
engineering and management courses by AICTE, such as scholarships,
employment portals, and faculty-training programmes.
