हिंदी भारत की राष्ट्रभाषा है I आज विश्‍व हिंदी दिवस मनाया जाता है I इस दिवस को मनाने का उद्देश्य हिंदी के प्रति जागरुकता और इस भाषा को अंतरराष्ट्रीय रूप सेऔर मजबूत करना ह I

1975 में तत्कालीन प्रधानमंत्री इंदिरा गांधी ने प्रथम विश्व हिंदी सम्मेलन का उद्घाटन किया था I 1975 से भारत, मॉरीशस, यूनाइटेड किंगडम, त्रिनिदाद और टोबैगो, संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका जैसे विभिन्न देशों मेंविश्व हिंदी सम्मेलन का आयोजन किया गया है I

विश्व हिंदी दिवस पहली बार 10 जनवरी, 2006 को मनाया गया था I तब से यह हर साल 10 जनवरी को मनाया जाता है I

भारत की कौन सी राष्ट्रभाषा चुनी जाएगी ये मुद्दा काफी अहम था I काफी सोच विचार के बाद हिम्दी और अंग्रेजी को नए राष्ट्र की भाषा चुना गया I संविधान सभा नेदेवनागरी लिपी में लिखी हिन्दी को अंग्रजों के साथ राष्ट्र की आधिकारिक भाषा के तौर पर स्वीकार किया था I 14 सितंबर 1949 को संविधान सभा ने एक मत से निर्णय लिया कि हिंदी ही भारत की राजभाषा होगी I
