Celebration of National Reading Day - 19th June 2023

"The journey of a lifetime starts with the turning of a page!"
@sfit_engg_official wishes everyone a very Happy National Reading Day!
19th June is celebrated as National Reading Day in India to honour the Keralite teacher, P.N. Panicker. This celebration of reading did not begin until 1996. However, it has grown into a large-scale movement over the years, with many participants rejoicing, learning, imbibing, and celebrating the habit of reading.
Puthuvayil Narayana Panicker is known as the father of the library movement in Kerala. He died on 19th June 1995, after which in 1996, National Reading Day was celebrated as a tribute to the legend. The Ministry of Education of Kerala also observes Vayana Varam (reading week) for the week between the 19th to 25th of June.

The 27th P N Panicker National Reading Day/ Digital Reading Month Celebrations 2023 are being celebrated as previous years in collaboration with Govt. of India, Ministry of Education, NITI Aayog, National Digitial Library of India (NDLI), Govt. of Kerala, P.N. Panicker Foundation, P.N. Panicker Vigyan Vikas Kendra and various other stakeholders from 19th June to 19th July, 2023.
Following activities were conducted to celebrate the National Reading Day from 18 June to 19th July 2023:

1) Take the Pledge at: Reading Day Pledge 2023
Total Pledges taken: 164 (Faculty and Staff: 21 and Students: 143)
An online badge was shared with all the participants who took the Pledge as a recognition of their active and wholehearted participation.

2) Go Fish: An innovative reading game which received active participation from staff and students.
As part of the celebrations, we also invited Book Suggestions and General Suggestions from
all the stakeholders. These suggestions are noted and those feasible will be implemented in
the near future.

3) Memory Game: In the bustling world of libraries, fostering a love for reading among young minds is paramount. Beyond the realm of traditional story time sessions, incorporating interactive and engaging activities can further ignite children's passion for books and spark their curiosity about the vast world of literature. Introducing a memory game centred on books presents a delightful opportunity to not only enhance memory and concentration skills but also deepen children's familiarity with diverse genres and authors.
A memory game was played with the books available in our library. It received active participation from staff members. The objectives of this Memory Game were to improve memory and concentration skills and to learn about different types of books.

4) Book Mark Making Activity: The art of bookmark making offers a delightful and hands-on approach to fostering creativity and self-expression among children. By providing a platform for artistic exploration and personalization, bookmark making activities engage young minds, cultivate their fine motor skills.

Incorporating all the above activities into library demonstrated a commitment to providing engaging and stimulating experiences that nurtured young minds and cultivated a passion for creativity, self-expression, and the joy of reading.
